Bath Hotel Cobble Roundabout & Pathway

A combination of traditional reclaimed pennant cobbles and cubes were used to create this visually stunning car park feature in Bath

The clients brief was to minimise the amount of gravel being tracked into the reception area by guests shoes and luggage, whilst preserving the central roundabout feature and complimenting the buildings traditional architecture. Our in house on-site Director/designer Nick came up with the following idea.

The Greenwood setting out engineer Zak went about plotting the shape and determining the correct levels. The blue dots indicate where the setting out pins are hammered in to create a circle. The cobbles we have used, traditionally called pegs work perfectly around a tight circle. The levels are checked with a laser, then double checked with a spirit level and lastly eyed in low down the old school way on one’s belly!!

The central roundabout joins a path that leads you to the reception. We used a 30minute rapid setting professional grout in order to allow the pedestrians access the same day a few hours later.

The clients were over the moon with the finish and thought the brief was met very well. The whole team enjoyed this project- but enjoyed the fresh ground coffee supply more. Thank you to the maintenance manager for looking after us.
