Cobble Driveway in Combe Down Bath

A beautiful cobble driveway with a cottage courtyard look and finish

Our client primarily required a solution to greatly improve the ongoing drainage problems on his driveway, whilst we also had to create a finish that would complement the surroundings and property.

The lack of drainage allowed huge amounts of water to build up at the bottom of the driveway near the front door of the house, which unfortunately created damp issues within the property. We fixed a gully pot with a cast iron lid into a central location exactly where the rainwater pooled. The gully pot sits 70mm lower than the surrounding cobbles, creating a funnel effect that catches 100% of the water gathered.

Midway down the drive is a cast iron strip drain, which sits completely across the driveway, creating the first line of drainage defence. Both the gully pot and strip drain are connected to a large soakaway which is lower down in the garden. The water now runs away very well and the cobbles compliment the property beautifully.
